Just this year, the United Kingdom implemented some changes to their immigration law and subsequently implemented a point based system for the non-European immigrants who wish to come to the UK to study, train or work. This new system has been divided into 5 tiers that replaced the currently used 80 or more routes. Each of these tiers has varied conditions, entry requirements as well as entitlements for the immigrants who wish to go to the UK for work or any other purposes. The 5 tiers are as follows:
Tier 1 is for highly skilled migrants such as investors, entrepreneurs and the graduate students. This was designed as a replacement for the Highly Skilled Migrants Program, the Entrepreneur and Investors schemes and the International Graduates scheme.
Tier 2 is for the skilled workers who have been offered a job there. This tier replaced the current UK work permit regulations.
Tier 3 is for a very limited number of lower skilled workmen who are going to fill in the temporary shortages in the workforce.
Tier 4 is dedicated to the students who wish to study in the UK.
Tier 5 is for the mobility of the youth as well as temporary workers like those who have come under the working holiday agreements with other the countries.
That is, currently, the outline that the government has provided about this new point based immigration system. This is, of course, still subject to change as it nears its launch. Any subsequent changes to the information would of course be announced by the immigration office, themselves.
